ELKO Grupa JSC Donates Blood

16.06.2009

One of the leading wholesalers of IT products and components in Eastern Europe and the largest Latvian company, ELKO Grupa JSC (ELKO Group), organized a donor day for its employees within the framework of the World Blood Donor Day 2009 and the "Take part!" campaign of the State Blood Donor Centre (SBDC) on 11 June.

At the main Office of ELKO Group, on Rūpniecības Street 27, the special SBDC bus received more than 30 ELKO Group JSC employees who donated blood to help or probably to save somebody's life, as well as to support the Neonatal Department of Children's Clinical University Hospital.

Within the framework of World Blood Donor day this year, which took place, as usual, on 14 June, the SBDC organized the "Take part!" campaign, in which the ELKO Group employees took part, donating blood and giving the donor's compensation of 3 LVL to the Neonatal Department of Children's Clinical University Hospital, where babies born on time and premature babies undergo treatment. Medical equipment necessary for the treatment of these little patients will be purchased using the money donated.

"Participation in activities that are significant to society is important to everyone at ELKO Group, and the donor movement is certainly one activity that is significant to society. The donor day is organised regularly in ELKO Group and we are glad for the co-operation established with the SBDC, thus also allowing us to involve those employees who would gladly take part in the donor movement, but can not do it because of the daily rush. The opportunity to do something good, realizing that our help could mean so much to somebody, provides a special satisfaction to ELKO Group. Therefore we are grateful to the State Blood Donor Centre for the job they did and we hope to continue this tradition", says Jānis Casno, the executive director of ELKO Group.
